You have ONE voice & it uses the same anatomy whether you are speaking or singing. This means that any sounds you make when speaking, you can replicate those same sounds when singing. Today’s practices bring more intention to the variety of ways you can use your speaking voice for more clarity & consistency.
Warm-up: Alphabet speaking
Use a neutral register of your voice
Try circle lip ‘oo’ inhale to speak the alphabet in one breath
Exercise #1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Speech mix focus
Avoid low vocal fry quality or higher quality of your voice
Find a neutral register of your voice that you can speak in comfortably
Exercise #2: Oh, no ya don’t!
Speech call focus
Use megaphone hands at face to support natural amplification
Add movement by mimicking throwing a ball
Exercise #3: Say it isn’t so
Combining speech call & speech mix
Ask yourself: What does it feel like to yawn? to lift your soft palate when doing the speech call
Try layering all the strategies: Megaphone hands, ball throwing, & yawning for your most confident & clear speaking voice
